Huntington - Commack
New York
Huntington was settled in 1653 and the old villages are still the part that people know best. New York Avenue has the restaurants, the storefronts, and a bookstore that replaced one the town had for forty-four years. Author nights still pack the place. Around the corner, a pastry shop does most of its business in a matter of hours on Saturday mornings. Northport is on the harbor. Slower, and everybody is just fine with it. The pet shop on Main Street opens early and nobody is in a hurry once they're inside. You can walk along the waterfront after and not run into anyone who looks like they have somewhere to be. Commack is further south, more houses, less sidewalk. It filled in fast in the fifties when the potato farms went under and never tried to be a village. The villages were already close enough, and everything that came after just grew in around them.
