Most mornings in McHenry and Kane County start the same way. Someone pulls into a bakery they've been going to for years and orders without looking at the menu. Algonquin fills in the gaps with enough of its own spots that people don't always drive somewhere else. Breweries have become genuine gathering places across the corridor, weeknight stops after practice or a long shift. The area grew up around rail lines and farmland, and you can still read that in how the towns sit along the river. What holds it together is that people stay loyal to the places they find.
